TRANSPARENCY IN Government & Business Operations!!

GOVERNMENTS are created to establish and maintain order.  They provide stability for communities.  Governments are supposed to protect the rights of individuals, the citizens. Governments are meant to promote the general welfare and security

of the people they represent.

Tribal Citizens can develop trust in

Tribal Leadership with honest,

forthright communications about the Tribe's state of affairs in its entirety.

I SUPPORT TRANSPARENT REPORTING IN ALL AREAS OF OUR TRIBAL GOVERNMENT & BUSINESS ENDEAVORS!!

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ALL TRIBAL AFFILIATED ENTITIES

Currently, we members receive occasional reports about the Tribal government's financial position.  That is only a small part of a much larger picture.  The Tribe has created subordinate entities.  Profits, if or when there are any, may flow into the government coffers.  Members want to see increases and improvements in programming.  We need to understand what cash profits flow from the various businesses owned and controlled by our

Tribal leaders into the Tribe's accounts.  How can we ask for additional services if we don't know or see what the Tribe's finances are overall?

Sharing information also helps prepare and

educate future Tribal leaders.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE!!

The best way to mentor & guide our young people is by setting the example of honorable, dignified leadership with unquestionable integrity.  A clearly defined Strategic Plan with Goals & Objectives that tell our people exactly what our leaders will be focused on and why is absolutely essential to holding them accountable for the decisions they make on behalf of and in the name of our Tribe.  Their actions will directly influence the health and stability of programs our people rely upon: Health & Welfare, Minors Trust Contributions, Educational Scholarships, etc. Tribal Citizens deserve to know where our Tribe is headed as the future unfolds.

Every Elected Official Must Put the Tribe's Interests First!!

What Our People Want = What Our Tribe Needs

   - Constitutional Reform that protects our Tribal Sovereignty AND the rights of our Tribal Citizens!

   - A solid commitment to building our Educational Endowment to support educational opportunities for generations to come!!

 - A clear picture of the economic development strategy pursued by elected officials on behalf of and in the name of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribal Nation...Why?  Because programs that benefit our people rely on cash flows from these endeavors!!

   - A map of how ALL of our Tribal entities are connected and how they interact with each other.

A Legacy of Service to the Tunica-Biloxi People!!

My work for our Tribe has included...

 -  Native American Rights Advocacy going back

nearly two decades!

   -  Oversight of the Minors Trust Program, valued at approximately $50MM, initially.

   -  Support of full Scholarships for tribal students.

   -  The creation of a partnership with Tulane University which led to the development of the Tunica Language Revitalization Project.

   -  Pushing for full transparency of the Tribe's comprehensive financial report to keep members informed of the impact of tribal leadership on the Tribe's net worth...a centralized report so members could see EVERYTHING relating to the Tribe's monetary assets!! This comprehensive report was the norm until just a few years ago, and it was available to the people EVERY MONTH!!

Ehniyuyana...my heart words!

Our tribal lands have always seemed magical to me ever since I was just a little girl.  I believed the reservation was the absolute best place to live and grow up.  Running free in the grass, picking pecans that had fallen in front of my great-uncle's home, and the smell of honeysuckle blossoms growing wild was like a fairytale to a child growing up in the city.

However, for our elders in those years and for over a century before, life was much harder.  The lives we have today are so different from those of our ancestors.  Their struggles were extremely difficult from lack of access to educational opportunities, to food scarcity, to bitter feuds between family groups--an adult's perspective of life on the rez was not so magical.

The opportunities we have today are somewhat miraculous given the history of our people. But we have them, and it is truly a gift to be explored and built upon so that our native community can thrive well into the future.

I want my family and yours to feel joy and pride when they think and speak about our tribal community.  That will take a commitment from all of us to approach our dedication to the Tunica-Biloxi nation with good and respectful hearts when working alongside one another.  Jealousy, greed and envy have no place in the environment where we are all connected.  Only by lifting each other up will we be able to lift up the entire tribe.  Please join me in this effort!!

ABOUT ME

BWL Green-Rust.jpg

       I am Tunica-Biloxi, born and

raised in New Orleans.  I lived on the reservation in Marksville for a time,

in central Louisiana.  I attended & graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Master's Degree in Business Administration in Finance & Accounting, and a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature, a minor in History & a concentration in Linguistics.

I devoted my professional career,

for three decades, to my Tribe, to our people, to Native American Rights advocacy and the growth of our tribe.

I am proud to have followed in the footsteps of my great-grandfather,

Chief Eli Barbry and my grandfather,

Sylvester, "Ti-tin," J. Barbry, Sr.

My legacy for my family, for my grandchildren, for our community

will be my constant support of educational opportunities for our people and the start of

the Tunica Language Revitalization Program, but especially for the voices of our strong Tunica-Biloxi women - mothers, friends, sisters all.

Building a legacy at summer Language Camps to pass onto our youngsters takes years of dedication! From 2010 to 2013, I worked with Tulane University's Linguistics department to create the foundation for the Tunica Language Project.  The Tribe joined the effort in 2013 with the formal adoption of a Language Revitalization Program.
